Training and courses

Mynstra gives talks, courses and workshops on using AI at work. Hjörtur Sigurðsson has given more than a hundred talks and workshops since Mynstra was founded.

The material is tailored to each group, with examples from the participants' own work, and the aim is to be informative without being dull. The focus is more on what is done and how than on individual programs.

Who it is for

Workplaces that want their staff to make better use of AI. The courses are tailored to the group's skills, whether people are taking their first steps or are further along, and suit specialists and other staff alike.

Talks and courses have been given for engineering firms, contractors and project owners, municipalities and public bodies, pension funds, media, energy companies, estate agents, HR professionals, and trade associations and their member organisations.

Formats

  • Talk

40 to 60 minutes, on site or on Teams, with no limit on numbers. It covers what AI can do now, where the limits are, confidentiality and good working practices, with examples people can try themselves. The talk is meant to spark interest and encourage people to try things for themselves.

  • Hands-on course

Two to three hours, often half a day. Teaching and demonstrations, followed by hands-on exercises. It covers how to give context, state goals clearly and keep working with the results. Participants try tasks from their own work and bring a computer and access to one of the tools.

  • Workshop with a team

Two to three hours with a smaller group doing similar work. It starts with the question: What would you like to be able to do with AI? Then specific tasks are chosen and reusable ways of working are set up, for example skills that teach the AI to do recurring tasks the same way every time, tasks that run by themselves at set times, and agents that work in the workplace's own environment.

  • Series for several groups

The same core material for several groups or departments, adapted to each group. Large groups are split by skill level, for example into those who are starting out and those who are further along.

  • Open courses

Courses that people from different workplaces can sign up for, for example at Iðan fræðslusetur.

  • Follow-up

Desk rounds, where we go from desk to desk and people get help with their own tasks, a follow-up workshop a few weeks later, and guidance for teams as needed.

Workshops that look systematically for tasks suited to AI and automation are described on the Strategy and guidance page.

Topics often covered

  • The latest in AI and what the tools can do now
  • Writing, summaries and document analysis, also in Excel and PowerPoint
  • Good prompts: context, clear goals and working further with the result
  • Recurring tasks: skills, tasks that run by themselves, and agents
  • Confidentiality and security: which data can go into the tools, and when AI is not the right choice
  • Images and video with AI, and what to watch out for
  • First steps in programming with AI
  • Material for specific sectors, e.g. reviewing tender documents, specifications and contracts in construction, residents' enquiries at municipalities, and data work in newsrooms

Frequently asked questions

Which tools are used?

Mostly ChatGPT and Claude, which are comparable tools. Microsoft Copilot and Gemini also come up, and most of the same advice applies to all of them. The tools are chosen together with the workplace.

Does this work if we only have Copilot?

Yes, but Copilot cannot do everything that is shown, for example some things involving agents and connections. We go through this with you before the course.

Do participants need any prior knowledge?

No. Courses can start from the very beginning, and the material is adapted to the group's computer skills. With groups that have already started, we start where they are.

Do participants need a subscription?

For hands-on courses and workshops, each participant needs access to one of the tools. A free account is often enough. We help you find what suits you.

Can this be held on Teams or outside the capital area?

Yes. Talks and courses are held on site, on Teams or both, and talks can be recorded.

What about data protection?

The courses cover which data can be used and which settings matter. Legal advice on data protection is given by specialists in that field.
